Ubuntu is a Linux distribution based on Debian, developed by Canonical. It releases an LTS (Long Term Support) version every two years, backed by several years of security updates, making it a reassuring choice for a server you don't want to reinstall every six months.

It's now the most widely used Linux distribution on servers and VPS worldwide, which has a very concrete consequence: nearly every tutorial, forum, and technical doc out there uses Ubuntu as its reference.
